KING SPIDER
THE MINX
HEADLESS HARVEY

The video will be split into two distinct style/scenes:
A neglected Childrens TV set called HELTER SKELTER. Representing Childhood.
An amalgamation of INTERIORS of a fictional building that make up the Mind.

Childrens TV set: HELTER SKELTER
A forgotten decaying 70’s TV set based on the Banana Splits and my childhood impressions of Television taking you into another "dream world", the set will be black and white with Mayan and Eskimo Art-cum-psychedelia, influenced by the early RESIDENTS videos.
Three ghosts (JUNGIAN ARCHETYPES) occupy the space.
These three represent the trilogy of the psyche:

King Spider: Incubus/Animus.
The Minx: Succubus /Anima.
Headless Harvey: The Self/Shadow.

They contemplate and play out the current state of mind in a pacey, textured animation/live action narrative, which takes the viewer from the TV set into a series of interiors where these conflicts are played out.

THE INTERIORS
Drawing from my experiences of Dream Interpretations the “House” represents the psyche and in each room/hallway/ events/contemplations are played out, Fear, Love, Danger, Unknown, Beauty.
I will be using normal footage and layering textured decollages to give the feeling of decay and neglect. With text and other elements animated on top of the main screen image, giving the sense of a profusion of experiences, in my experience of recording dreams everything seems to happen in a “packet” a series of images condensed in a short space of time, which is how we remember events. This is how the action will be portrayed.

SOUND

Layers of sound and my own industrial textured sounds will accompany the images. There is no lip-sync, everything is in voice over.
Voices/white noise of conversations, backwards forwards… snippets brought forward, juxtaposing monologues.

METHODOLOGY

How I build a video consists of separate experiments editing them and feeding them back into the camera experimenting with different layers in Final Cut, playing with the playhead
sequence.
Then I feed it back into the software and brick by brick build up a moving painting.
I’ve always admired David Lynch’s 78 card rule, basically he writes ideas for scenes on 4 x 5” index cards and when he has 78 of them he has a feature film, then he spreads them out on the floor and tries to connect a narrative out of the chaos.

I too work like this and have images already in mind from my dream diaries, but would include new stuff whilst in the process of making the video.
But I will have structured themes that the three characters talk about this will be a good hook to bring the film into a recognisable whole.

This is how the INTERIOR scenes will look, layered with textures with live action.

I'll employ the symbol/collage layering inspired from JG Ballard's ATROCITY EXHIBITION,
where every scene has a feeling of absence/presence: something that has just happened or is about to.
